Only Kirubi and These 4 Kenyans Own Cars With This Expensive Feature
New reports indicate that currently there are only five Kenyans who own cars that have personalised number plates in accordance with a new law introduced in 2013.
As expected, the five are wealthy individuals who have a luxurious taste and interested in the recognition that comes with owning such a car.
Leading the pack is Billionaire industrialist Chris Kirubi who owns three personalised vehicles.
DJ CK, as he is fondly referred, is one of Kenya’s wealthiest businessmen and has also built a personal brand associated with flamboyance.
City lawyer Donald Kipkorir is another obvious name in this exclusive list with his Sh25 Million Range Rover Sports HSE.
Kipkorir has a knack for displaying his wealth on social media and it is no surprise that he would want road users to know his expensive ride.
Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko is the third entrant in this list with his gold-coloured Land Cruiser that has car plates branded, “Sonko 1”.
International football stars MacDonald Mariga and his brother Victor Wanyama have also spent a million each to get the personalised plates.
In 2013, then Transport Cabinet Secretary Michael Kamau published a gazette notice to regulate motor vehicle registration.
According to the gazette notice, getting a personalised plate costs Sh1 Million while replacing a defaced number plate costs Sh50,000.
