Kate Mayeye CEO African Fabric & Designs Kenya Ltd
Meet the Kenyan who is dressing Nollywood A-listers
Kenyan fashion designer, Kate Mayeye has bagged an A-list Nollywood star as a muse for her fashion designs.
Kate who is the CEO of African Fabric & Designs Kenya Ltd got the rare chance to dress an award winning Nigerian actress for three high profile, red carpet events.
“Former Miss World Kenya Juliet Ochieng’ was a high school mate of mine. She approached me about a new movie she is co-producing under her company, Jareke Media and Production House. She wanted my company to partner in her movie project titled Brother Jekwu . What I had to do from my end was provide outfits and accessories where necessary,” Kate told Word Is.
Actress Angela Okori was in the country a few months back for the pre-production phase of the dramatic comedy starring Mike Ezuruonye, Huddah Monroe and Mumbi Maina among others.
During her visit, Juliet who is a 2014 beauty queen turned filmmaker “recommended my services to Angela Okorie, the Nigeria Actor who wanted some red carpet outfits tailored and designed in Kenya. My husband – who is my business partner – and I picked her up from the hotel to the store. She loved the fabric and the designs, I had on display that day. She is very thorough and specific when it comes to what she wants. From there on, we hit it off and I made her three red carpet outfits in a time frame of two days. Her schedule was tight since they were filming and she didn’t have time for a fitting. I’m so happy to have added Angela to the long list of satisfied clients under African Fabric and Designs.”

She added, “I am grateful to Juliet for bringing Africa together through film and trade. This opens up Kenya to the world. Who would have thought a business I started less than a year ago would be dressing a renowned Nigerian celebrity?”
Beside, Angela, Kate has dressed former Big Brother housemate and current Ziwani Ward MCA, Millicent Boina Wambui.
Asked if she has a favourite celebrity she loved dressing, Kate said, “Every client is a star in my eyes. They are my celebrities.”
