Machakos Church Shut Down Over Nude Worship

A church was on Tuesday closed in Masinga, Machakos county, following public complaints that worshippers undress during prayers.

Masinga deputy county commissioner Muraya Mwangi said there has been an outcry that women who attend the church undress before being prayed for.

He said investigations reveal that only women are allowed to attend the Healing Ministries Church services and there is no specific time for worship.

Mwangi said some women were recently found naked in the church when the Ekalakala chief and residents raided it.

He said the pastor runs the church illegally.

Ekalakala Town Business Community chairman Duncan Mutua said the pastor has been caught several times praying for nude women inside the church.

He said women spend a lot of their time at the church and even attend night worship.

“We recently stormed the church and caught the pastor pouring water on a naked woman in the name of praying for her,” Mutua said.

Church pastor Joseph Wambua dismissed the allegations as “witch-hunt”.

Wambua said the church is genuine.

“All these problems have been caused by some chiefs who have been demanding some bribes from me,” he said.
