Kindiki Declares He Will Remain Ruto’s Running Mate in 2027
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has declared that he will remain President William Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 general election, dismissing speculation about his political future and saying the Kenya Kwanza ticket is already settled.
Speaking at the 11th Annual Meru Dairy Farmers’ Field Day in North Imenti Constituency, Meru County, Kindiki said the Ruto–Kindiki ticket would be presented to voters in next year’s election. He dismissed suggestions that the deputy presidency could be contested within the ruling coalition.
“I want to state it clearly that I will be President William Ruto’s running mate in next year’s general elections. Those who are salivating for that position should forget it because the Ruto–Kindiki ticket will be on the ballot, and we shall win,” he told the gathering.
Kindiki also addressed growing political divisions within the Mt Kenya region, where differences have emerged between leaders from the eastern and western blocs. He urged leaders to work together, saying unity would strengthen the region’s ability to secure development projects and maintain its influence in national politics.
Earlier, the Deputy President inaugurated the Meru Maziwa Millers Animal Feeds Factory in South Imenti Constituency, where he called on residents to support President Ruto’s re-election campaign. He said the government’s development record justified another term in office and argued that support for the President also reflected confidence in his leadership.
“Voting for President William Ruto is also voting for me,” he said, urging Meru residents to support the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Kindiki criticised opposition leaders, saying many had previously served in senior government positions without delivering meaningful development. He contrasted their record with the Kenya Kwanza administration’s focus on infrastructure, agriculture and social programmes, describing these as evidence of the government’s commitment to improving livelihoods.
His remarks were backed by leaders from Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties who attended the events. Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, Governor Isaac Mutuma, Senator Kathuri Murungi and several Members of Parliament supported his call for regional unity and urged voters in Mt Kenya West to match the political support that Mt Kenya East has historically given the region.
