Kenyans abroad shine in major leagues
It was yet another round of splendid performance by Kenyan footballers abroad at the weekend with majority of them clocking full minutes. .
Denis Ventura found the target inside 23 minutes from the start but the visitors leveled matters before Rama inscribed his name on the scoring sheet with a clinically executed winning goal. In the meantime, one-time former Tusker defensive midfielder Aboud Omar played full time as his Bulgurian top tier league side PFC Slavic edged out Botev Plodvic 1-0 at Slovija Stadium.
Borislav Baldzhings struck in the 75th minute for PFC to move to the fourth place in the standing with 43 points out of 29 matches played. In England, Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama clocked 90 minutes as Southampton thumped Tottenham Hotspurs 2-1 at White Hart Lane with Stevens Davis delivering the goals in the 31st and 72 minutes.
The victory enabled Southampton to move to sixth place with 60 points and next face Crystal Palace in the final game of the 2015/2016 season. In the Zambian Premier League, Jesse Were continued with his goal-scoring antics as he led the team to a 1-1 draw with hosts Kabwe Warriors.
Kasusu had given Kabwe Warriors the lead that was cancelled out by Were before the lanky Kenyan international limped off the pitch and was replaced by Maybin Mwaba. The priceless draw saw Zesco maintain their second position at 17 points with Nkana still leading the pack with 19 points.
Two other Kenyans including Teddy Akumu and David “Calabar” Owino were fielded by Zesco. In the South African Premier League, Brian Mandela’s Maritzburg University bravely held hosts Orlando Pirates to a barren draw at Orlando Stadium.
