Kenyan Chef Dorin Nyawira Appointed to Senior Culinary Role at Dutch Embassy

Kenyan culinary professional Dorin Joy Nyawira Gicuku has been appointed Residence and Private Chef to the Ambassador at the Dutch Embassy in Nairobi.

In the role, Nyawira will oversee menu planning and meal preparation for the Ambassador, visiting dignitaries and official events held at the ambassadorial residence. The position requires technical expertise, creativity and an understanding of different cultural preferences in diplomatic hospitality.

Announcing the appointment, Nyawira said she was honoured to join the embassy team in Nairobi. She described the opportunity as both exciting and rewarding.

Nyawira said her work is driven by a passion for culinary innovation.

She enjoys experimenting with international cuisines and improving recipes through feedback from her employer. She is currently developing a new menu that combines familiar dishes with bold flavours, while also preparing meals for upcoming embassy functions.

Outside her professional duties, Nyawira enjoys travelling and exploring new places. She spends her free time reading cookbooks, watching culinary programmes and swimming. She also said Nairobi’s cultural diversity adds to her experience in the city, while Karura Forest remains one of her preferred places to relax.
