Kenya, Poland Deepen Talks on Diaspora-Driven Development
Kenya and Poland are exploring closer cooperation on diaspora engagement, skills transfer and investment following talks between officials from the two countries in Nairobi on Tuesday.
A Polish delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Wojciech Zajączkowski held discussions with Kenyan officials on strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding the role of citizens living abroad in national development. Diaspora engagement was a key part of the talks, with both sides examining how overseas communities can support economic growth through investment, skills and professional networks.
Kenya has increasingly sought to use its diaspora as a source of financial resources, expertise and international business links. Poland also has a large population living abroad and brought its own experience of engaging overseas communities to the discussions.
Officials considered ways diaspora communities could contribute beyond direct financial investment. These include sharing specialised skills, building business connections, supporting innovation and providing access to international professional networks.
The discussions also covered other areas of mutual interest and the prospects for closer cooperation between Kenya and Poland. The two sides emphasised continued diplomatic engagement to identify practical areas for collaboration.
The Polish delegation included Chargé d’Affaires and Head of Mission Marcin Kubiak, Deputy Director in the Department for Africa, the Middle East and Latin America Magdalena Bogdziewicz, Deputy Director in the Department of Development Cooperation Iwona Kozłowska, Deputy Head of Mission Magdalena Moryksiewicz and Maria Niesłuchowska.
Kenyan participants included Ann Mruche, Deputy Director of the Skills and Expertise Division, as well as John Kiplagat, Abdilbasid Hassan and Nikki Matika.
No major agreements were announced during the meeting.
