Governor Kivutha Joins Ruto in Rejecting BBI
Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana on Saturday, November 14, joined Deputy President William Ruto in rejecting the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
Kivutha who joined former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama in rallying the Ukambani residents to reject the BBI report, escalated the call for the amendment of the document while hitting out at Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga for driving the country towards a divisive BBI campaigns for his own selfish political interest.
The Governor, who has been leaning towards DP Ruto’s camp recently, accused Raila of being the stumbling block in the call to have a document acceptable by all Kenyans.
“It is wrong to ask people to submit their signatures and to endorse the BBI report when they are ignorant on its contents,” Prof Kibwana said.
He criticized President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila’s plan to use administrators to aid in the collection of signatures to pave way for a referendum saying that it will never succeed.
Kivutha and Muthama also castigated leaders from regions backing the BBI report for what they termed as forcing the community to accept the report they don’t know its contents.
“Those pushing for endorsement of the BBI should first seek views from the community on what there is in the amended constitution that will benefit the community,” Kivutha added.
The two rallied the Kamba community to reject the BBI report during the burial of the son of former Makueni MCA Agnes Mailu at Kalamba Village in Makueni County.
Raila while announcing the date for the start of the collection of one million signatures in preparation for the upcoming referendum on Friday, November 13 dismissed calls to amend the report adding that the time for giving views was up.
The former Prime Minister maintained that the document will only be subjected to editing but no new ideas added.
“We’re not going to bring in substantive new issues, these are basically editorial issues which are being captured. There are certain issues which probably had been mentioned but were not captured, they’re being added,” Raila said.
