Family Seeks Help to Repatriate Body of Kenyan-American Killed in US Crash

Joseph Nyagechi Morema, a 29-year-old Kenyan-American nursing assistant, died in a motorcycle accident in Minnesota on 21 April after losing control of his bike on a gravel surface.
Authorities said Morema veered onto gravel and dirt while riding and was unable to regain control. He is believed to have been travelling to his job at a senior living facility, where he worked as a certified nursing assistant. His sister, Carroline Morema, described the loss as devastating, noting that the family was still recovering from the deaths of their parents in 2023.
Morema was born in Kenya and became a United States citizen at the age of 17. He had established his life around work and community service. Family members said he had a strong interest in motorcycles, which he saw as both a hobby and a way to relax.
His death follows the killing of his parents, Edward Morema Nyagechi and Grace Mong’ina Morema, in Kenya last year. The family is now arranging to return his body to Nyamira County for burial alongside them.
Relatives have launched a fundraising campaign to raise about KSh839,000 (approximately $6,500) to cover transport and documentation costs. Only part of the amount has been raised so far, highlighting the financial burden involved.
