White House Covid expert Doctor Anthony Fauci confirmed the US was staying with the United Nations-backed body during a video call with other member states on Thursday. He said ‘I am honored to announce that the United States will remain a member of the World Health Organization. Yesterday, President Biden signed the letters retracting the previous administration’s announcement to withdraw from the organization. ‘And those letters have been transmitted to the Secretary General of the United Nations and to you Dr Tedros, my dear friend.’ Dr Fauci added that the US had also halted plans to recall its own officials from working for the WHO. Explaining the ‘very important’ decision on Good Morning America, Dr Fauci said: ‘When you’re dealing with global pandemic, you have to have an international connectivity, and for us to not be in the WHO was very disconcerting to everybody.’
