Meet the 42 top Kenyan lawyers who will lead Raila’s poll petition

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has unveiled some of Kenya’s best legal minds who will argue his case before the Supreme Court. The team has 42 members.

Raila’s legal team is led senior counsels James Orengo, Pheroze Nowrojee, Philip Murgor and Okongo Omogeni.

“We are pleased that our Presidential Election petition has buoyed the spirits of Kenyans that justice will prevail, and that they did not cast their ballots for Azimio in vain,” Raila said in a statement.

The other lawyers are Tony Moturi, Judy Oloo, Celestine Opiyo, Arnold Oginga, Barbara Malowa, Addah Awiti, Justus Jura, Leonard Okanda, Plister Omondi, Winnie Makaba, Jerusah Michael, Deborass Bubi and George Ouma.

Edward Ambala, Geoffrey Sore, Naila Salim, Tabitha Wathuti, John Njomo, Jacqueline Njoroge, Sperenza Nyawira, Kinyua, Hannington Amol, Ndegwa Njiiru, Mathews Okoth, Kennedy Wanyanga, Kevin Katisya have also been lined up in the Azimio legal team.

The case management team will be led by Raila’s presidential campaign chief legal advisor Paul Mwangi who will be assisted by Jackson Awele, Julie Soweto, Velma Maumo, Prof Ben Sihanya, Fred Orego, Dan Maanzo and Tom Macharia.

“The consultants on the petition legal team are Prof Makau Mutua, C.N Kihara, Dr Adams Oloo and Caesar Vanjao,” Makau said.

According to the timelines released by the Judiciary, hearing of the petition will begin on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

The seven-judge bench of the court will deliver its verdit on September 1, 2022, fourteen days after the petition was filed.
