Stranded Kenyan Woman in Oman Set to Return Home After Agency Support

A Kenyan migrant worker stranded in Oman is preparing to return home after receiving financial assistance from the recruitment agency that arranged her employment abroad.

Florence Muthoni travelled to Oman in 2022 in search of work to support her family. However, her situation changed after she became pregnant while overseas, making it difficult for her to continue working and earn an income. Without a source of income, Muthoni was unable to cover the cost of travelling back to Kenya.

She appealed for assistance after finding herself unable to fund her return journey.

The recruitment agency that facilitated her placement has now provided financial support, covering the cost of her air ticket and related travel expenses. The assistance will enable her to leave Oman after months of uncertainty.

Speaking after receiving the support, Muthoni expressed gratitude and said it came at a time when she had lost hope of resolving the situation on her own. She said she was looking forward to reuniting with her family and rebuilding her life in Kenya.

Her case reflects the challenges faced by some migrant workers when personal circumstances change unexpectedly. Workers abroad can face significant difficulties when dealing with health concerns, employment problems or a sudden loss of income, particularly when support systems are limited.

Details of Muthoni’s employment contract in Oman have not been independently verified. However, her appeals for assistance indicated that she faced severe financial hardship after she was no longer able to work.

The agency’s intervention has ensured that Muthoni will not remain stranded and has provided a route home after an extended period of uncertainty. She is expected to depart Oman in the coming days, bringing a difficult period to an end and allowing her to begin a new chapter with her family in Kenya.
