Sheila Jepkorir Chebii’s Remains Arrive in Kenya Ahead of Burial

The body of 25-year-old Sheila Jepkorir Chebii arrived in Kenya on Thursday, more than a month after her death in Australia, ahead of her burial in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Her remains landed in the country on Thursday afternoon and were expected to arrive at Eldoret International Airport later in the evening before being transferred to Eldoret Hospital Mortuary. Prayers are scheduled for Friday at AIC Fellowship Church in Eldoret, where family members, friends and church members will gather to pay their respects.

She will be buried on 20 June at her family home in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Sheila died in Sydney on 17 May, barely six weeks after moving to Australia. She had left Kenya on 5 April in search of new opportunities and had hoped to build a future abroad.

Born and raised in Kimumu, Eldoret, Sheila was the daughter of Samuel Tanui Chebii and Linah Tanui. Family members and friends remember her as a devoted daughter and sister whose life ended unexpectedly at a young age.

Her death has deeply affected both her family and members of the Kenyan community in Australia. Tributes from relatives, friends and fellow Kenyans abroad have highlighted the strong relationships she built within her family and community.

The return of her remains marks an important moment for her family as they prepare to lay her to rest.
