Rutto Apologizes for ‘Misleading’ the Kalenjin Community
National Super Alliance (NASA) principal and Bomet County Governor Isaac Rutto has apologized to the Kalenjin community for allegedly ‘misleading’ them in 2013 general elections.
The governor made an apology to the Kalenjin community for what he termed as leading them to the Jubilee coalition in the 2013 general elections, when he teamed up with Deputy President William Ruto to campaign for President Uhuru Kenyatta to get overwhelming support from the vote-rich Rift Valley region.
Rutto, who has since fallen out with Deputy President Ruto and the Jubilee Party, joined the opposition outfit last month as a principal has been tasked with selling the candidature of Raila Odinga in the Rift Valley region, in what will be an acid test of his popularity in the region.
The outspoken county boss asked the community to vote for Raila Odinga, accusing Jubilee of abandoning them after they were elected into office. “Jubilee has been giving us empty promises. They are only good in looting and if we make another mistake, Kenya is likely to plunge to an economic crisis,” he said.
The Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party leader further said: “I am sorry for misleading you in 2013 but we have learned a lot. This is the time to give leadership to the right people.”
Ruto was given the Deputy Premier Cabinet Secretary position in the NASA power sharing deal should they win the August 8 elections.
Rutto faces Jubilee’s Joyce Laboso, who is the Deputy Speaker in the National Assembly, as he seeks to defend his Bomet Governor seat.
