Ruto Videotaped Crying Uncontrollably During a Prayer Session
An amateur video showing Deputy President William Ruto crying uncontrollably during a prayer session has gone viral on social media.
Ruto, who is giving his first shot at the presidency in this year’s elections, was attending a prayer meeting at his State residence in Karen, Nairobi on Tuesday morning.
In the short video clip, the deputy president is seen shedding tears with his eyes tightly closed and uses his palms to cover his face at one point. Other congregants are heard singing a worship song in the background.
The prayer service was led by Bishop Mark Kariuki of Deliverance Church International and was also attended by other Kenya Kwanza Alliance-allied leaders and Ruto’s wife Rachel.
Speaking during the service, Ruto urged Kenyans to turn out in large numbers in next week’s elections and vote for the right leaders. He also called for peace during the electioneering period.
“If you don’t show up to vote, you should not complain when wrong people are elected. This election is more of a spiritual battle than a political battle, and that is why we have all manner of things that are going on today,” Ruto was quoted by Nation.
“We believe in a united country and we want peace for our nation. I want to ask Kenyans from all walks of life, from both sides of the political divide to be peaceful so that we can work together as Kenyans and know that after the election, God’s will shall prevail and we will walk together as a united nation.”
Ruto has fashioned himself a pro-church candidate who is out to protect the freedom to worship and has previously termed the August 9th election as “more of a spiritual battle than a political battle.”
He will face off with Raila Odinga of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition, Prof George Wajackoya (Roots Party) and David Waihiga Mwaure (Agano Party) in the presidential duel.
