Ruto endorses bid to deny foreigners tenders below KSh 1 billion
– Mathira MP wants only Kenyans allowed to bid for contracts below KSh 1 billion
He wants 30% of jobs in foreign firms in Kenya be awarded to local citizens – This, he says, will expunge unemployment and unfair job competition from outsiders Deputy President William Ruto threw his weight behind a bid by Mathira Member of Parliament (MP) Rigathi Gachagua aimed at protecting local jobs from unreasonable encroachment by foreigners. The MP had earlier expressed displeasure stating that foreigners had taken over even casual jobs firms yet Kenyans were wallowing in joblessness and extreme poverty.
To prevent such situations from recurring, Rigathi said, he would introduce a submission in the National Assembly that would prevent outsiders from bidding on jobs or contracts below KSh 1 billion. “We want our people to also be comfortable working in their country and therefore will support that bill because good governance protects jobs of its citizens, our role as the government is to protect the interests of Kenyans,” said Ruto.
