Raila Won’t Address US Congress, Advisor Says
Opposition leader Raila Odinga will not address the United States Congress as earlier reported by a section of Kenyan media.
The former Prime Minister’s advisor, Salim Lone clarified that Raila will only hold meetings with US Congress leadership, where he will discuss his bid for electoral reforms as well as political crisis facing the country.
“Mr Odinga will have important meetings in the US Congress but he will not address it,” Lone, who lives in the US told Citizen TV.
Lone also clarified that addressing the US Congress is an exemption only given to world foreign leaders and only on special occasions.
“Addressing congress is a privilege reserved for countries’ foreign leaders on state visits to the US,” Lone said.
The Nasa leader’s tour to the US comes a week after President Uhuru was declared the winner of the October 26th repeat poll.
Raila, who boycotted the election, termed it as a “charade” and said he would not recognize Uhuru as a legitimately elected President.
