Raila in South Africa to visit sick daughter

Opposition leader Raila Odinga left for South Africa Friday to visit his daughter, Rosemary, who is recuperating after she was admitted to a hospital in the country two weeks ago.

Raila, who suffered food poisoning early this week and was admitted overnight to the Karen Hospital, left Nairobi shortly after 7am Friday morning aboard a Kenya Airways.

His spokesman Dennis Onyango said in a statement that Raila will be out of the country for more than a week. From South Africa, he is expected to fly to the US for some engagements.

Rosemary, who has declared intentions to run for the Kibra parliamentary seat, was flown to South Africa for further treatment days after she was admitted to the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

She was accompanied by her mother, Ida Odinga. Before he left for South Africa, the ODM leader thanked Kenyans for their best wishes following his hospitalisation.
