A Chinese restaurant in Nairobi that does not allow Africans into its premises after 5pm reportedly served dogs to its customers.
According to a report by NTV, the restaurant simply known as Chinese Restaurant (pictured above)
which was closed down on Tuesday, had dog legs hanging from beams in its kitchen.
The kitchen was also found to be in deplorable conditions. The restaurant also served as a brothel according to workers who were interviewed.
Nairobi governor Evans Kidero earlier on Tuesday said the restaurant will remain closed until the owners comply with all the set rules and regulations regardless of a friendship between Kenya and China.
“Chinese restaurant owners failure to comply has got nothing to do with the friendship and diplomatic relationship Kenya enjoys with the great Country of China and the Chinese government,” he said on his Facebook page. Kidero said that the restaurant had not complied with the public health requirements for handling food and beverages.
“The restaurant owners had no valid liquor license and they had not complied with the Public health requirements for food handling and testing,” he said. Kidero added that the owners of the restaurant had no change of User from Residential to Commercial which is a requirement to operate a business in Nairobi. He urged business holders to treat customers and clients fairly irrespective of race, tribe, religious affiliation, sex and colour.
The owner of the restaurant Zhang Yang was on Monday appeared at the Milimani Law Courts on Thursday or pay a fine of Sh50,000 for operating without a licence. The Daily Nation earlier reported that only “loyal” Africans are allowed into the restaurant after 5pm. Patrons must spend at least Sh20,000 at the restaurant to prove themselves loyal and to be allowed to stay after the set time.
