Mugo Kibati Appointed Telkom Kenya’s CEO
Telkom Kenya has announced the appointment of Mugo Kibati as its new Chief Executive Officer, two years after Aldo Mareuse took over its reins.
Mr Mareuse was tapped in 2016 by Helios Investment Partners, which owns 60 per cent of Telkom, to lead an aggressive turnaround strategy – his forte – but has moved on to pursue other interests according to statement sent to media houses.
The former Group CEO of Sanlam Kenya PLC comes at a time when Telkom seeks to maintain its growth and sustain its business. During Mr Mareuse’s leadership, the firm expanded its network by over 50 per cent, successful rebranded and rolled out a 4G network.
“The Board is very grateful to Aldo for his leadership of the company over the last three years. We wish him the very best in his future endeavours,” said Eddy Njoroge, the firm’s chairman, when he announced the transition.
Mr Kibati holds non-executive Board positions in various institutions and is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors at Lake Turkana Wind Power Limited.
He holds a B. Tech (Electrical Engineering) Degree from Moi University (Kenya), a Master of Science Degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) and a Master of Business Administration Degree from George Washington University (USA). He started his career as an Electrical Engineer at Bamburi Cement (LafargeHolcim) in Kenya and also worked as a Market Development Manager at Lucent Technologies in USA.
