Mercy Rono Brings Germany Experience to Bomet Women Rep Race
Mercy Rono is seeking the Bomet County Women Representative seat in the 2027 general election, bringing her experience working with Kenyans seeking education and employment opportunities in Germany into her political campaign.
Rono, popularly known as “German Machine Full Network”, runs Germany Connect, an initiative that connects Kenyan youth with education and employment opportunities in Europe. She has focused on helping young people prepare for the requirements of living and working abroad.
She identifies language proficiency as one of the main challenges facing Kenyans seeking opportunities in Germany. Employers and embassy officials require applicants to demonstrate an ability to communicate in German, and Rono has used digital platforms to help students develop the necessary language skills.
Rono encourages young Kenyans to approach language learning with discipline and confidence. She compares learning German with acquiring local languages such as Nandi and Kipsigis, arguing that a foreign language can also be mastered with consistent effort.
As she prepares for the Bomet political contest, Rono is incorporating her experience abroad into her campaign agenda. Her platform focuses on youth investment, international exposure and job creation, with an emphasis on addressing the causes of poverty rather than relying on short-term assistance.
She has also contrasted her approach with political practices centred on cash handouts, arguing that access to education, skills and employment opportunities can provide families with more sustainable sources of income.
