Massachusetts-Based Kenyan Family Pays Tribute to Late Son George Levi Njuguna
A Kenyan family living in the United States gathered at St. James Cemetery in Whitman, Massachusetts, to mark what would have been the thirteenth birthday of George Levi Njuguna with a graveside tribute.
The commemoration was led by digital creator Rose Mwangi, widely known as Carol Shii, who joined relatives in remembering her late son. The family reflected on George Levi’s life and celebrated the happiness he brought to those around him while continuing to mourn his loss.
George Levi died in 2024 at the age of 11 after suffering a sudden medical emergency while taking part in activities at the Dana Barros Basketball Club in Stoughton. Emergency responders attended the scene, but he could not be saved.
At the time of his death, George Levi was a sixth-year pupil at North Middle School in Brockton. His passing prompted an outpouring of support from classmates, teachers, neighbours and members of the Kenyan diaspora.
Family members remember him as a kind and cheerful boy whose positive attitude left a lasting impression on those who knew him. They have continued to honour his memory through tributes celebrating his character, his aspirations and the time they shared together.
George Levi is survived by his parents, Rose Mwangi and Philip Muturi, also known as Muru wa Soni, and his younger brother, Asriel Njuguna.
