List of 100 Kenyan Schools Burnt in 2 Months
-
The rampant arson attacks being witnessed in various schools continue to stun the country while stakeholders in the education sector trade blame.
The wave of fires has so far hit over 100 schools within a period of two months with the attacks being reported on a daily basis.
A look at the growing list of schools affected by the attack indicates Kisii County is the most notorious. 18 schools from the region have gone up in flames within the specified duration.
The shocking spate of arson attacks in Kisii has prompted the county to introduce strict measures such as banning the purchase of petrol using jerrycans unless one has an identification card or a letter from an Officer Commanding Station (OCS).
Uasin Gishu County comes second with eight Secondary Schools being torched despite accelerated efforts to stem the bad trend.
Migori and Narok counties have been listed third with a total of 14 institutions having properties razed down.
The fires have further extended to Nakuru and Homa Bay regions where six secondary schools have been burnt and several students arrested.
In Murang’a, students have set five institutions ablaze with the same number of schools being affected in Nyeri.
The Education Ministry has heightened attempts to find a solution to the arson cases, with various leaders suggesting measures for managing the crisis.
