David Waiganjo Koinange, the son of the late powerful Cabinet minister Mbiyu Koinange has passed away.
Waiganjo died in a road accident along the Nakuru-Mau Narok road on Thursday night while driving home from Nakuru town.
Confirming the incident, Njoro Sub-County Police Commander Mohammed Huka said his car rolled several times after one of its rear wheels burst.
“He was going back to his Muthera farm when the accident occurred,” said Huka.
Huka indicated that the deceased was alone in his Range Rover, which was extensively damaged and towed to Mau Narok police station. “The vehicle is completely written off,” he added.
Waiganjo’s body was taken to Egerton University mortuary.
The deceased was a businessman and renowned farmer in Mau Narok, where he leased his land to smallholder farmers to grow carrots, potatoes, beans, among other crops.
He once rejected an offer to lease the over 5,000-acre Muthera farm to Chinese investors for Sh300 million.
His father, who served in the first President Jomo Kenyatta’s administration as Cabinet minister for 16 years, died in 1981.
