Ksh2,500 Entry Set for Historic Bayern vs Ajax Opener at Raila Odinga Stadium

Legal challenges and online scam attempts have failed to halt the official ticket rollout for the January 5 match between Bayern Munich and Ajax Amsterdam at the new Raila Odinga International Stadium.
Sales opened at 6 pm on Thursday through the official website, talantasportscity.com, with entry prices starting at Ksh2,500. Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya confirmed the pricing structure, reassuring fans that the event is funded through private-sector partnerships amidst rising public scrutiny over the cost.
The match serves as the official inauguration for the 60,000-seat stadium, built to host the 2027 AFCON PAMOJA tournament starting June 19 next year. President William Ruto announced the fixture on October 28 as part of a pledge to honour the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
However, the high-profile fixture has faced immediate legal resistance. Six Kenyans filed a petition in the High Court on Monday seeking to stop the government from spending public funds on the event and demanding full disclosure of all financial agreements.
Justice Aburili declined to issue emergency freeze orders on Tuesday, ruling that the application was not urgent enough to grant ex-parte relief. The court gave the respondents 10 days to file their responses before a scheduled mention on November 25, allowing ticket sales to proceed as planned.
Organisers are also battling online fraudsters attempting to exploit public interest. A parody website, talantasportcity.com, surfaced online advertising fake VVIP tickets for up to Ksh80,000, causing confusion among fans over inflated prices.
A Sports Ministry official confirmed that the secondary site is an unauthorized scam. CS Mvurya warned the public against fake platforms, confirming that genuine tickets are available across seven distinct seating categories exclusively on the official domain.
The venue features level 1, 2, and 3 seating tiers, alongside gold, platinum, accessible sections, and 58 skyboxes. Dedicated hospitality packages are being sold directly via email bookings for corporate buyers.
Both European clubs have committed in writing to field their full-strength starting line-ups rather than legends or academy squads. The event marks Ajax’s first competitive appearance on the continent and Bayern Munich’s second. Bayern’s squad features recent Ballon d’Or winner Harry Kane, while the two clubs hold a combined 10 UEFA Champions League titles.
Matchday festivities will include a 12-hour fan festival surrounding the stadium, featuring international music artists, cultural displays, and dedicated concierge services for spectators.
