Kenyan Woman Brutally Attacked at a Minnesota Restaurant for Not Speaking “American”
A Kenyan-American woman was brutally attacked and injured at a restaurant in Coon Rapids, Minnesota in what her friends describe as a hate crime.
Asma’s friends say Asma along with her friends and their children were dining at an Applebee’s restaurant on October 30th when another patron overheard them speaking in a foreign language (Swahili). The patron yelled to them to speak “American” and threw a beer mug to Asma’s face, an attack which left her with deep cuts on her face and busted lips. The injuries required 15 stitches.
Jodie Burachard-Risch, 43, was arrested for the attack and charged with third-degree assault. She is scheduled to appear in court on December 7th.
