Kenyan Man Who Battered Expectant Wife Almost to Death Arrested

A man who beat up his pregnant wife and almost killed her for allegedly failing to cook food for him by the time he got home has been arrested.

The man, identified as Naftali Luzuli, rained blows and kicks on his wife after discovering she hadn’t purchased food with the Sh500 he had given her before leaving home.

29-year-old Valerie Masibo is currently nursing serious injuries at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.

Luzuli was arrested after photos showing the victim badly injured on her face were widely circulated on social media with users demanding for arrest of the suspect.

“The suspect is in our custody and he will face assault charges once the medical report on the victim is released,”  Eldoret South police boss Wilson Abduba said adding the victim will be arraigned in court on Monday.

The incident comes a week after another man was videotaped battering his wife in Makueni County, sparking outrage from Kenyans online. The man, David Nzomo, has since been handed a 12-year jail term after pleading guilty to assaulting his wife, Winfred Mwende.
