Kalonzo Dismisses Reports of Leaving WANTAM Movement
The Wiper Patriotic Front has dismissed as fake a letter circulating online that claimed its leader Kalonzo Musyoka was preparing to announce a change in his political allegiance.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party said the document, which carried its logo and indicated that Kalonzo would hold a press conference at the SKM Command Centre in Karen, was fabricated. The letter claimed that the former Vice President would make a major announcement about his political future and the country’s leadership.
Party officials urged Kenyans to ignore the notice and warned against spreading false information. The party said it remained committed to the WANTAM Movement and its goal of removing the current administration from power, reaffirming its position within the opposition alliance.
The fake statement comes as Kalonzo’s political plans continue to receive close attention. Questions have been raised about his lower public profile compared with other opposition leaders who have been holding rallies across the country.
Kalonzo’s decision to spend the weekend in Tseikuru, Kitui County, instead of joining other opposition figures in nationwide mobilisation efforts led some supporters to question his level of involvement in the campaign to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 election.
Despite the criticism, Kalonzo remains among the leading figures being considered for the opposition’s presidential ticket. The coalition has indicated that it intends to support a single candidate to contest against Ruto, keeping Kalonzo’s name central to discussions about the race.
His supporters say his approach is deliberate, arguing that he is focused on building support and strengthening alliances rather than maintaining constant public appearances.
