Juliana Cherera should oversee governor polls not Chebukati – Raila
“Yeye hata haoni haya anasema ati uchaguzi ya Mombasa na Kakamega iendelee kama yeye yuko hapo,” Raila said.
• “We are saying this elections will be conducted under the IEBC vice chairperson,” Raila said.
Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga now says they will not accept the two governor elections to be overseen by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati.
Speaking in Mombasa on Wednesday while campaigning for Azimio candidate Abdulswamad Nassir, Raila said Chebukati should disqualify himself from the polls over integrity issues.
“Yeye hata haoni haya anasema ati uchaguzi ya Mombasa na Kakamega iendelee kama yeye yuko hapo,” Raila said.
“We are saying this elections will be conducted under the IEBC vice chairperson.”
Governor elections in Mombasa and Kakamega have been scheduled for Monday next week after being postponed twice.
The elections will also be held in four constituencies and two wards.
Raila said Chebukati is now a suspect by virtue of the petitions filed in court to challenge the outcome of the August 9 general election.
The ODM leader on Monday filed a petition challenging the election of William Ruto as President-elect.
He claims Chebukati presided over an illegal activity by declaring the Deputy President winner of the contest based on falsified election results.
“Bwana Chebukati kama mshtakiwa adisqualify himself (Chebukati as an accused person should disqualify himself),” Raila said.
“Ajiondoe katika hii uchaguzi ambayo itaendelea awache ifanywe na wale watu ambao hawana upendeleo,” Raila added.
(Let him disqualify himself and let people who are not partisan oversee the election)
This is Raila’s first visit to Mombasa since the August 9 general elections.
The Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate is accompanied by his running mate Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua.
Raila rallied their supporters to show up in numbers and vote for Abdulswamad who he said needs in excess of 300,000 votes.
