On Sunday Sept. 14th, 2014, two joint services attended by a record more than 650 people took place for both the dedication of church items-cum-official launch of P.C.E.A Neema Church in Lowell, MA and the induction service of pastor, Rev. Dr. Karimi Mumbui.
These services were officiated by the P.C.E.A’s Moderator of the 20th General Assembly, the Rt. Rev. David Riitho Gathanju and attended by more that eight other PCEA ministers from the US and Canada and nine other pastors who are members of the Kenyan Pastors’ Fellowship in Boston led by their Chairman, Ven. Peter Gachathi.
In the service that took almost 4 hours, the members and friends of Neema were jubilant and gave thanks to God for the day, each expressing joy that God has been with them all through despite the various challenges and frustrations that they have faced in the past.
P.C.E.A. Neema Church was started on March 23rd, 2014 after the resignation of Rev. Dr. Karimi from Ushindi Church. Since then members have moved into the new church en masse seemingly filling their newly found space at the former Registry of Motor Vehicles in Lowell. The church currently has more than 400 members and is sub-divided into eight so-called Districts under the leadership of elders and deacons. This creates a family setting for extended worship and fellowship.
The Rev. Dr. Karimi was called into ministry and trained at the then St. Paul’s United Theological College in Limuru from 1993 to 1996 graduating with a Bachelor of Divinity degree. He was later ordained by the Nakuru Presbytery in 1997. In 2000, he was transferred to Tumutumu Parish in Tumutumu Presbytery where he served until August 2001 when he obtained a scholarship to pursue his Masters degree in Central Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City graduating in 2003. In 2006, he graduated with his Doctor of Ministry degree from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK.
