The government has seized vehicles belonging to senior National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders in the ongoing crackdown on opposition leaders – Those affected were John Mbadi, Suba South Member of Parliament (MP) and National Assembly Minority Leader, and Junet Mohamed, Suba East MP who doubles as Minority Whip – The vehicles were reportedly impounded outside Parliament Buildings on the evening of Wednesday, February 7 – Prior to this move, reports had emerged that Embakasi East MP Babu Owino had locked up himself inside the Parliament Buildings for fear of being arrested Government has taken away vehicles belonging to National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders amid intensified crackdown on those who took part in the controversial swearing-in of Raila Odinga on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Uhuru Park Grounds in Nairobi.

The officers, who were seemingly working under strict orders “from above”, then sped off with the vehicles to unknown destination. “These vehicles belong to the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC). It’s unfortunate that the police can take them away in that manner,” Mbadi protested.

Muhamed, on his part, questioned why the executive arm of the government was behaving as if it had powers over the Legislature. “The vehicles they took is property of Parliament, which is an independent body. I therefore don’t understand why one arm of the government should cede its powers to another,” he argued. This was despite court order barring police from touching him. According to a previous report by TUKO.co.ke, the controversial Embakasi East lawmaker said he will spent the night within Parliament Buildings because he had information that police were waiting for him outside.
