Ethiopian Airlines to Construct 2nd five-star hotel at Addis Ababa Airport, to cost $91M

Ethiopian Airlines is constructing a 637-key five-star hotel in Ethiopia’s capital and the project will cost a whopping $91 million.

The mega hotel will constitute of a duty-free shop, cultural shop, an aviation museum and parking lots built on a 22,410sqm piece of land. The airline group recently announced a tender to hire a consultant for the second phase project.

The completion of the new hotel’s design and construction is expected within two and half years after awarding the contract according to various media reports. Additionally, its other hotel is currently under construction also located at the same place. The total number of rooms to be operated by the Airlines will reach 1,110. The two hotels will lie on a combined 42,410sqm plot of land.

In a statement on its website, the airline noted that adequate number of hotel rooms with acceptable international standard will be created to provide a good environment for tourists besides accommodating passengers during transits, layovers or technical delays.

As of late, the Airline was rebuilt as the Ethiopian Airlines Group involving the Ethiopian Airport Enterprise (EAE), Passenger Airline, Cargo Airline and Logistics Company, Ethiopian In-flight Catering Services, Ethiopian Aviation Academy, Ethiopian MRO Services and Ethiopian Hotel and Tourism Services.
