The death toll from a Naivasha road accident on Monday has risen to six after another passenger died while undergoing treatment at Naivasha Sub-County hospital.
This came as it emerged that the six were members of one family who were going to Naivasha to attend the burial of a relative when the accident occurred along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.During the accident near Malewa River, their vehicle was hit head-on by a trailer and later rammed on the side by another truck killing five people on the spot. The sixth victim who was also the driver was rushed to hospital but succumbed to injuries as the family tried to come to terms with the accident.
A relative, Martin Ndung’u, said that the six had travelled from Njoro to Naivasha on Monday for the burial of the relative on Tuesday when the accident occurred.A distraught Ndung’u said that they were making plans to transfer the bodies to Nakuru after post mortem examinations were carried out. “This is a very painful moment for the family but we are praying for strength as we prepare to lay them to rest,” he said.Naivasha Deputy OCPD John Kwasa confirmed the accident adding that the driver of the personal car was overtaking a fleet of vehicles when she was hit by the two trailers.
