David Murathe Threatens to Expose Individuals Behind Sh7.8 Billion Kemsa Scandal
Jubilee Party vice-chairperson David Murathe has threatened to expose the individuals behind the Sh7.8 billion scandal at Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (Kemsa).
Speaking during an interview with The Standard, Murathe said he will appear before the National Assembly Public Investment Committee (PIC) next week to shed light on his alleged role in the scam.
Murathe, a close ally of President Kenyatta, has been linked to Kilig Limited, a company that allegedly bagged a Sh4 billion contract for the supply of COVID-19 personal protection equipment (PPE) to Kemsa.
“I will be going to the committee on Thursday. I asked to appear in person to shed light on this matter but I was instructed to do an affidavit which is self-explanatory,” said Murathe.
He added: “I am not a beneficiary, owner, director, or shareholder at the company. I was just loaning the managers who are known to me.”
PIC, which is investigating the scandal, had summoned Murathe alongside former Kilig Limited director Wilibroad Gachoka for grilling.
Murathe termed the dragging of his name into the scandal as pure politics, adding that Kenyans will be shocked when the real perpetrators of the scam are exposed.
“What is this farce with me. I am not a signatory. This is just politics and they are making it a big deal yet the contract was canceled. There was no procurement, delivery, or invoice raised. This committee is supposed to protect the public interest in the event goods and services are overpriced or supply air,” he added.
