Coronavirus: KQ Now Suspends Flights To China

The national airline carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) has supended its flights to Guangzhou China days after saying that it will not suspend flights to the coronavirus ravaged nation.

“Further to our prior communication regarding the current coronavirus outbreak, we have temporarily suspended all flights to and from Guangzhou starting Friday, 31st January 2020, until further notice. We however, clarify that our service between Nairobi and Bangkok remains operational”, the statement said in part.

 

On Wednesay, the airline announced that it would be monitoring the situation in China but would not suspend the flights.

“The Airline remains in consultation with the Ministry of Health and would like to assure our customers that we are evaluating all options and we will communicate the next steps of action at the appropriate time”, the statement on Wednesday said.

Other airlines

British Airways, Lion Air, Ethiopian, Seoul Air and a couple of other airlines have suspended flght to and from China.

Since the first confimed case in Wuhan province of China, more than 200 people have died, with about 9,800 infections confirmed.

The United States has cautioned its citizens from travelling to China. It has also aksed those in China to ‘consider leaving’.
