Bishop on the Run After Burning a Human Skull During Easter Prayers
Police in Homa Bay County are searching for a bishop who allegedly burned a human skull at Lwanda Nyamasare beach on Lake Victoria on Sunday evening.
Bishop Charles Ododo, who has since gone into hiding, is said to have led members of his church to the beach, claiming that God instructed him to retrieve a human skull in the waters of Lake Victoria and set it on fire.
A police report on the incident says the pastor had been invited for Easter prayers at a local church in Gembe West Location on Saturday.
During his stay at the church, he claimed to have had the vision to retrieve a skull in the waters of Lake Victoria.
He shared the vision with his congregation and convinced them to accompany him to the lake to find the skull.
Kasgunga East Sub-Location Assistant Chief Francis Kasuku said the matter was reported to him by Lwanda Nyamasare Beach chairperson Michael Aroko after the bishop and his congregation started burning the skull.
The chief alerted police officers but by the time they arrived at the scene, the cleric had disappeared and efforts to trace him were futile.
Officers from Mbita police station took the skull to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital where morticians confirmed it was a human skull.
Investigations into the incident are underway as a hunt for the man of the cloth continues.
