Eight pupils were injured after a dormitory caught fire at St Augustine primary school in Tudor, Mombasa.
County commissioner Maalim Mohammed said the pupils were rushed to coast general hospital with breathing complications.
Some of them suffered shock following the inferno whose cause remains unknown.
Police are investigating the incident; though the county commissioner says they don’t suspect an arson attack.
“We will only reach a conclusion on what started the fire after the investigations,” Maalim said adding that none of the pupils is in danger.
The dormitory which caught fire is situated on the second floor of the building.
The fire, a first one in a primary school, was however contained before it could cause more destruction.
