2021 KENYA DIASPORA CONFERENCE – ALL ROADS LEAD TO SEATTLE, WASHINGTON
For the last one and half years the world has been forced into long-drawn-out hibernation brought about by the global COVID19 pandemic. but that is gradually changing, slowly but surely. Finally, the tide is turning, and the world is opening for business once again thanks to the miracle of modern medicine in the form of vaccines; people are traveling and making the all-important human connection once again, challenging the status quo and exploring business opportunities and creating new bonds. Kenyans in the in the United States and elsewhere in the diaspora around the world are not left behind, they are fast thawing from the shut down and are eager to get in the “swing of things” as normalcy returns. And there is one great way and place to restart the post Covid Diaspora agenda as this year’s Diaspora Conference scheduled for Friday and Saturday August 27 & 28, 2021 in Seattle, Washington at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Seattle Airport South, 22406 Pacific Highway South, Des Moines, Washington, USA. Organized by theAssociation of Kenyan Diaspora Organizations, Inc. (https://akdoi.org) in partnership with the very popular WAKULIMA USA (https://wakulimausa.org) this annual event brings together Kenyans of all walks of life under one roof to network and map their general welfare for the future.
Speakers – This is an interactive, informative Convention and not a lecture series, an idea sharing platform that includes plenary speeches and presentations that emphasize interactions with attendants. The highlights of this year’s Convention are the organizations we have partnered with and who is who speakers lined up to share their ideas and philosophies with the Diaspora. This year’s conference is particularly intriguing to many Kenyans in the Diaspora because one of the key-note speakers will be the Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman the Hon. Wafula Chebukati who is expected to engage Kenyans about Diaspora Voting in the upcoming 2022 general elections. Diaspora voting has eluded Kenyans in the diaspora since it was mandated in the 2010 constitution and this conference will provide them with a great opportunity to have robust elections framework with Kenya.
On trade, the conference will showcase multiple business opportunities for Kenyans to invest in Kenya and in the keynote speakers’ line-up to address trade is the Principal Secretary in Ministry of Trade, Industry and Enterprise Development Ambassador Karimi Kaberia who is expected to discuss investment opportunities and incentives for the Diaspora to invest in Kenya.
Our expanded list of speakers and topics on our program covers more topics of common interest to most if not all the Kenyans, ranging from Health and Wellness, Depression awareness, Suicide among the youth, Real estate, Tourism, Investments, Financial literacy Mortgages, Banking, among others.
According to AKDOI Chairman, Mr. David Ochwangi, the Diaspora Conference provides an excellent opportunity to Kenyans to interact with each other, business leaders, political and government leaders in a relaxed environment where they can form long lasting partnerships, “we are an outcome driven organization whose mission is to unite Kenyans in the Diaspora for purposes of expanding economic prosperity as a way to advance our common welfare. The conference gives us the opportunity to share our vision on how to achieve that and to advance our common welfare.” The Convention’s theme this year is “Diaspora Expanding Partnership for a Brighter Future” wherein business leaders, government officials will have the opportunity to meet and engage with Kenyans. For us in the Diaspora, it is an opportunity to showcase our own progress in advancing our common welfare particularly in our economic ecosystem and investments, governance and culture.
