‘We Are Safe’: Kenyan in Iran Addresses Concerns as War Continues

A Kenyan national living in Iran has told compatriots at home that members of the diaspora remain safe despite the ongoing conflict.
In a video message shared online, the man, who identified himself only as Mbugua, said: “Hello Kenyans, my name is Mbugua, a Kenyan living in Iran. Today is the tenth day of war in Iran and just to report, we Kenyans living in Iran are doing well and we are safe, so don’t be worried.”
The footage, recorded at night, showed calm streets, moving traffic, and pedestrians, with the Muslim call to prayer audible in the background. Mbugua added that he hoped the fighting would end soon and promised to provide further updates if the situation changed.
The message comes amid heightened concern for Kenyans in the Middle East following the escalation of hostilities involving Iran. The conflict began on 28 February when Israel and the United States conducted coordinated air and missile strikes against Iranian military and strategic targets.
Iran responded with missile and drone attacks on Israeli and US bases, as well as allied facilities across the Gulf. Some strikes extended into neighbouring countries, including Bahrain and Kuwait, where defence systems intercepted incoming projectiles.
Two weeks into the conflict, cyberattacks and increased military activity have raised fears of a broader regional escalation. As of 13 March, operations continue across multiple fronts.
