Wanuri Kahiu breaks record having her movie Rafiki screened at the Cannes Film Festival
Wanuri Kahiu is one of Kenya’s most accomplished filmmakers. The granddaughter of the late Njenga Karume has achieved more than most in the film industry can boast.
She is a Kenyan film director, producer, and author. She has received several awards and nominations for the films which she directed, including the awards for Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Picture at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2009 for her dramatic feature film From a Whisper.
She is also the co-founder of AFROBUBBLEGUM, a media collective dedicated to supporting African art. The lady has now entered a club no Kenyan has, that of having her film screened at Cannes, the most prestigious film festival in the world!
