UK-Based Kenyan Prepares for Epic London–Eldoret Road Trip

Elly Kimutai Keter, a Kenyan living in the United Kingdom, will begin a road journey from London to Eldoret on 5 April 2026, estimating the trip will take around 130 hours with a co-driver.
Keter has chosen a BMW 3 Series M Sport for the journey and confirmed he has secured all required documentation, including a Kenyan driving licence, international registration papers, overseas insurance, and a European Union badge. He has also fitted new tyres to the vehicle.
His planned route includes 65 stopovers across several countries, with Berlin, Istanbul, Egypt, and South Sudan identified as major points along the way. Social media reactions have been mixed, with some offering encouragement and others highlighting potential risks.
Concerns include navigating politically unstable regions such as Sudan and South Sudan, as well as the bureaucratic challenges of crossing multiple borders. Alternative routes through West and North Africa have also been suggested. Technical discussions have focused on the suitability of the chosen car model, particularly in relation to terrain and engine reliability.
Keter’s journey is being followed closely as a test of endurance and overland travel. In Kenya, events such as a recent 50-kilometre Valentine’s Day walk from Nairobi to Gatundu have also shown growing public interest in physically challenging journeys that foster community engagement.
