Uhuru commends private sector as Nairobi’s biggest mall Two Rivers opens

President Uhuru Kenyatta has commended the private sector’s contribution to economic growth in the country.

Uhuru noted that the sector has also been instrumental in job creation.

“This has been manifested through preparation of national trade policy, which will ensure Kenya improves it trade competitiveness,” he said on Friday.

“Kenya was ranked 136 in the 2013 World Bank east of doing business index and it has since moved to position 44,” he added.

He reiterated Jubilee’s commitment to create an enabling environment for business.

The President made his remarks at the opening of Two Rivers Mall in Ruaka, Nairobi.

The 460,000 square foot structure finally opened its doors on Valentine’s day and has received more than 35,000 visitors.

It is partly owned by Avic International, which has a 38 per cent stake, Centum Investments with 14 per cent and other stakeholders including Old Mutual.

Centum chair Chris Kirubi said more than 10,000 jobs are expected at the completion of the second phase.

Once completed, Two Rivers is expected to house more than 150 international and local brands.

Among those who attended the event are Industrialisation CS Adan Mohamed, Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, Centum CEO James Mworia and Chinese Ambassador Liu Xianfa.
