Teen Jailed for 12 Years Over Fatal Stabbing of Schoolboy

A 14-year-old boy has been sentenced to a minimum of 11 years and 10 months in detention for the murder of 14-year-old Ibrahima Seck, who was fatally stabbed in Manchester on 8 June 2023.

Ibrahima was attacked while on his way to meet friends for a football game in New Moston. He was chased into a pub car park, where he was stabbed in the chest. Despite his injuries, Ibrahima identified his assailant before he died in hospital.

The boy responsible, also 14, was convicted of murder. During the trial, the court heard that the killer had boasted about the stabbing in a rap video. Two other boys, aged 14 and 16, were found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to custodial terms of two years and 10 months, and two years and four months, respectively.

The incident followed a brief altercation between the two groups. In sentencing, Mr Justice Bright stated that the stabbing was not premeditated and that the defendant had shown remorse, but he noted the seriousness of the offence, which warranted a long sentence. The judge also upheld a reporting restriction, meaning the teenagers cannot be named due to their age.

Two women, Keri Dobson, 37, and Naomi Heavnes, 39, were convicted of assisting an offender for helping the boys flee the scene and providing them with fresh clothing. Both were sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for a year.

Ibrahima’s death has deeply affected his family. His parents had previously reported incidents of gang intimidation to the police. On the day of his death, his mother had advised him against going out due to fears of bullying from a group targeting him and his friends.

Ibrahima was remembered in court as a kind and courageous boy with dreams of becoming an actor, who was devoted to his family.
