Somalia Suspends Visa-on-Arrival for Kenyans WEF 13th Dec 2020

Somalia has suspended visa-on-arrival for Kenyans, citing the need to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus as one of the reasons for the directive.

The new directive, which takes effect on 13th December 2020, will see ordinary passport holders apply for the travel permit at Somalia’s embassy before departing Nairobi. Diplomatic passport holders will be required to have an approval from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Government.

The latest move comes weeks after Somalia reopened its Nairobi embassy premises, ten years after Mogadishu won a court case against a private Kenyan businessman who had bought it during the civil war.

Somalia resumed international flights on 3rd August this year after temporarily banning the flights four and a half months ago to limit the spread of COVID-19. Travelers entering the country will require a certificate showing that they tested negative for the Coronavirus, issued at least three days before their arrival.
