Sarah Andiki: Kenyan-Born US Army Soldier Laid to Rest in Siaya

Residents of Bondo in Siaya County gathered to bury Sarah Andiki, a Kenyan-born soldier who served in the United States Army, at her family’s homestead in Chunga Village.

Mourners travelled from different places to attend the ceremony and pay their respects. Andiki served with the 492nd Engineer Company and had previously sustained an injury that required her to use crutches. Fellow soldiers described her as a committed professional who carried out her duties with humility and determination. Members of her community remembered her as compassionate and quietly resilient.

Family members and friends said her influence extended beyond her military service. They described her as calm and supportive, often offering reassurance during difficult moments and placing the needs of others before her own.

Former schoolmates from Ng’iya Girls High School recalled her kindness and gentle manner. They spoke about her love for football and her ability to build strong friendships during her school years.

Tributes shared on social media reflected similar memories. Former classmates and acquaintances expressed shock at her death and offered prayers for her family, describing her as someone whose warmth and generosity touched many lives.

Speakers at the funeral said her service in the US Army reflected discipline and commitment. At the same time, those close to her said she remained caring and approachable, balancing the demands of military duty with concern for others.
