Ruto Settles Sh1.5m Medical Debt to Bring Deceased Kenyan Home from Abroad
President William Ruto has provided Sh1.5 million to settle a family’s hospital debt, enabling the repatriation of their son’s body from abroad.
The assistance was announced during Ruto’s visit to Mutuini Hospital on Tuesday, following a request by Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie. The family, whose son Frank Mathew had passed away after seeking specialised treatment overseas, had been unable to bring his body home due to unpaid medical bills.
In response, Ruto directed his deputy comptroller, Gicheru, to release the funds immediately, ensuring the family could lay their loved one to rest. The president’s intervention highlighted the financial strain many families face when dealing with large medical debts incurred abroad.
In addition to this gesture, Ruto outlined the government’s plans to improve healthcare services in the area. He announced an allocation of Sh470 million for the construction and equipping of Mutuini Hospital. The new facility, aimed at easing pressure on Nairobi’s referral hospitals, will provide residents with better access to healthcare closer to home.
Ruto confirmed that he would return in April to officially open the hospital, marking a significant step in enhancing local health infrastructure.
