President Ruto orders learners to report to schools ‘with or without school fees’

President William Ruto has directed all learners to report to schools starting Friday, despite their financial constraints or lack of uniforms.
Speaking in Meru during the disbursement of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) business support programme funds, President Ruto ordered all provincial administration officers to facilitate the directive to ensure all children report to school for their first term studies.
The Head of State asserted that the government disbursed a capitation of Ksh.44 billion towards education and no child should be denied access to education due to lack of school fees.
“There is sufficient money for our children to be taught in the first term, so every child, with or without uniform and school fees, should report to school tomorrow morning,” he said.
“I want all chiefs, assistant chiefs and members of provincial administration. Every child must report to school tomorrow morning because we have provided the money to teach our children.”
He said that the transition from primary school to junior school, under the new Competence Based Curriculum (CBC), should not be crippled due to financial hitches and his administration is committed to ensuring a seamless transition.
As of Wednesday, January 22, the Ministry of Education reported that over 930 students who undertook their 2025 Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) exams have reported to school out of the 1.13 million registered learners.
Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Ogamba said that teams have been deployed to track down students who have not yet reported.
