ODM Senator Flown to Nairobi for Treatment After Attack

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi was injured in an assault at a coffee house in Kisumu on Tuesday afternoon.

According to his office, the incident took place at Westend Mall and later at Java Restaurant, where the senator had stopped after a haircut. His Director of Communications, Derick Luvega, said Mr Osotsi had spent about 30 minutes interacting with members of the public before a group of armed men approached him.

The group reportedly questioned the senator over his opposition to President William Ruto’s re-election bid. The exchange escalated into a physical attack, leaving Mr Osotsi with injuries that required treatment at a local hospital.

Mr Luvega said the senator’s security team did not use firearms during the incident to avoid endangering civilians in the crowded setting. He called on the National Police Service to investigate, noting that CCTV footage from the restaurant could assist in identifying those involved.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities seek to identify the attackers and determine the circumstances surrounding the assault.
