NSE Invites Kenyans for Free Online Training on How to Invest in Shares, Bonds

The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) is set to host a comprehensive, free investment training webinar. Dubbed “Stock Market Made Simple,” the virtual event will be held on Wednesday, January 28, from 9am to 11:15am via Zoom.

In an announcement on its official platform, the NSE invited the public to learn how to invest confidently in NSE-listed equities and bonds, promising insights valuable for both complete beginners and those seeking to sharpen their investment skills. While the NSE has not released a detailed agenda, the webinar will likely cover essential topics for new entrants, aligned with standard investor education materials provided by market bodies.

Key fundamentals expected to be addressed include understanding the basic difference between equities (ownership in a company) and bonds (loans to a company or government), a step-by-step guide on beginning the investment journey, and an introduction to how stock prices are determined by supply and demand and the concept of market liquidity. Other necessary fundamentals of the stock market include the crucial function played by licensed stockbrokers and investment banks, who are members of the

Kenya Association of Stockbrokers and Investment Banks (KASIB), in facilitating trades. Notably, the gateway to trading is opening a CDS account, which is mandatory for buying or selling shares. How can interested individuals participate in the NSE training? Prospective participants can register for the free webinar by scanning a QR code provided in the NSE’s announcement poster or by clicking the dedicated registration link.

The direct Zoom meeting details are also provided on the poster below.

This initiative represents a significant push to boost financial literacy and domestic investor participation in Kenya’s capital markets, which are seen as crucial for personal wealth building and national economic development.
