Mwaure Eyes State House in 2027 After Landing Govt Job

2022 Presidential Candidate David Mwaure Wahiga has made a political comeback after being named Agano party leader. According to a gazette notice dated October 14 published by the Acting Registrar of Political Parties, Mwaure takes over the position from Samuel Karanja.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 20 (1) (a), (c) and (d) of the Political Parties Act, Cap. 7D, the Registrar of Political Parties gives notice that Agano Party intends to change its particulars as follows,” read the notice in part.

The notice also made it clear that Kenyans opposed to the changes were advised to communicate their dissent to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).
“Any person with written submissions concerning the intended changes by the political party shall, within seven (7) days from the date of this publication, make their written submissions to the Registrar of Political Parties,” the notice read further.
Mwaure was in 2023 replaced as the Agano Party leader by Karanja, days after his appointment to serve as the Chairperson of the board of trustees of the National Environment Trust Fund for a period of three years.
Mwaure was replaced in an announcement released by former Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu on June 30, 2023.
The gazette notice revealed that the changes were made by the party at its special National Delegates Convention (NDC).
Other Leadership Changes to the Party
Under the new structure, Samuel Karanja will serve as the National Chairperson of the party.
The Deputy National Chairperson for Strategy and Operations position will now be held by Japhet Koech, taking over from Ruth Wambui Mucheru, while Odanga Nashon Pessa assumes the role of Deputy National Chairperson for Programs, previously held by Ruth Wanjiru Gichovi.
The Secretary General, Edinah Kanini Kimeu, retains her position, while Ruth Wanjiru Gichovi has been appointed as Deputy Secretary General, replacing Josiah Mwangi Nyamu, who now moves to the position of National Treasurer.
Jane Ngima Macharia continues to serve as Deputy National Treasurer, whereas Alex Adeya Obonyo takes over as National Organizing Secretary, replacing Mohamud Adan Mohammed.
David Mwaure Replaced as Party Leader After Ruto Appointment
Mwaure, one of the four presidential candidates in the 2022 election, is the only one to have conceded defeat and recognized William Ruto as the duly elected President of Kenya.
“Truth be told, we were presidential candidates, and we were also at Bomas. We saw the figures rolling down with our naked eyes in favor of President William Ruto, defeating the three of us, hands down.
“We instructed our chief agent to sign the last Form C to confirm Ruto’s win, while others refused to,” he said shortly after Ruto was declared the winner of the August 9, 2022, presidential election.
Mwaure garnered 31,987 votes behind Ruto (7,176,141), late former prime minister Raila Odinga (6,942,930), and Roots Party Leader George Wajackoyah (61,969).
Following his defeat, Mwaure pledged support for the government and even applied for the position of Speaker of the National Assembly, but lost to Moses Wetangula.
